Pioneer in digital art
Miguel Chevalier is a pioneer of digital and virtual art, internationally recognized for his work at the intersection of art, science, and technology, with a strong focus on generative systems and artificial intelligence. Since the early days of computer-based creation,he has explored how emerging technologies can open new artistic languages and immersive experiences.
Deeply inspired by nature, Chevalier draws on organic forms, ecosystems, and scientific research to create poetic digital worlds that reveal both the beauty and complexity of life.
His work not only celebrates the generative power of technology, but also raises awareness of the value of nature and the urgency of protecting it for future generations.
Reinventing the Oceans with AI
For “Reinventing the Oceans,” Miguel Chevalier draws inspiration from historic drawings by natural scientist Ernst Haeckel, focusing on radiolaria, unicellular organisms invisible to the naked eye. Using five different AI programs, guided by carefully crafted prompts, Chevalier transformed these microscopic life forms into a poetic, futuristic creatures resembling spaceships drifting through the ocean’s infinite depths.

More about Miguel Chevalier
Miguel Chevalier, who lives in Paris/France, is a pioneer of digital and virtual art, internationally recognized for his work at the intersection of art, science, and technology, with a particular focus on generative systems and artificial intelligence. Since the late 1970s, he has been exploring the computer not merely as a tool, but as a creative partner, shaping new artistic languages based on algorithms, data, and evolving systems. His work anticipates many of today’s debates around digital creation, authorship, and the role of technology in art. Well before artificial intelligence entered mainstream artistic practice, he integrated algorithmic processes, real-time calculation, and interactive systems into large-scale artworks, creating immersive environments that continuously evolve rather than remain fixed.
Miguel Chevalier has profoundly influenced how digital and AI-driven art is conceived, experienced, and understood – positioning technology not as an end in itself, but as a medium for sensory, emotional, and conceptual exploration that reconnects viewers with complexity and nature. Deeply inspired by nature, he often draws on organic forms, ecosystems, and scientific research to create poetic digital worlds that reveal both the beauty and complexity of life. His work not only celebrates the generative power of technology, but also raises awareness of the value of nature and the urgency of protecting it for future generations.
